Electrical Rewiring in Liverpool

As part of our comprehensive range of electrical services, SP Electrical supply complete electrical rewiring in Liverpool to ensure your present system adheres to all contractual and legal requirements and obligations. It’s vital to ensure that your existing electrical installation is fitted and working properly, as poorly wired properties are dangerous and can pose potential fire hazards.

Why do I need to Rewire?

If a property has not been rewired inside the past 15 years or so, there’s a possibility that much of the existing wiring will require upgrading in order to bring it in line with current standards. There’s a strong possibility of needing a replacement consumer unit (fuse box) in addition to substantial, if not full, rewiring if you’re planning on significant refurbishments that constitute a material alteration, as defined in Part 2 of The Building Regulations 2010.

Conversions and extensions must meet the Part P: Electrical Safety guidelines in full as they constitute ‘new work’. Furthermore, all existing wiring has to be brought up to standard to make certain that the extra load created by the new work will be handled safely and that cross bonding and earthing requirements are met. At SP Electrical, we can generally determine whether or not a house or flat has been recently rewired by inspecting the fuse box, electricity meter as well as any exposed areas. If you are looking at buying property, it is usually a good plan to have these inspections made in order to prevent unexpected surprises. For instance, a complete rewire may be required if the house has a mixture of sockets and switches, surface-mounted wiring or an outdated fusebox.

You may need a rewire in the following instances:

  • New works
  • Refurbishments constituting a material alteration
  • An outdated fuse box/consumer unit
  • A mixture of styles of switches and sockets
  • Surface-mounted wiring
  • Non-PVCu-insulated wiring (particularly rubber, fabric or lead-insulated wiring)
  • Old-style round pin sockets and dolly switches

Rewiring Cost

Costs of rewiring differ based on the size of the property in question and amount of restorative decoration work required. Early in the refurbishment process, it can pay to obtain the advice of an electrician for these reasons.
